The battery at Ste Marcouf (Crisbecq) has a number of open emplacements that were operational though new casemates were being constructed to re-house the 210mm Skoda guns. According to several sources on the Atlantic Wall, all the open gun emplacements along the coast were to have been replaced by full casemates built by the Todt organisaion. Although D-Day interfered with that process, it should be remembered that the major port areas received the majority of the concrete with the lesser areas between laging behind somewhat. Batterie &quot;Hamburg&quot; near Cherbourg, for example, would have been the most powerful battery on the peninsula yet construction was never completed.</description>
