Read the book PIONEER HISTORY OF KANSAS, by Adolph Roenick 1933. On page 234, Chapter XXX "Movement to Erect A Monument to the Dead", tells of this story in question. The primary source info came from those people who were raided and of those taken in raid. The book may be on the NET. Lincoln Co. KS Historical Society sells the book.

According to constructed history of the battle field it was highly unlikely.
Cody may have shot an indian on one of Tall Bull's many horses.
See history research on the ledger drawings found at the camp.
A U of Colorado press publication...I think from about 5 years ago.

If you have copy of painting i would like to see.

I am writing a book on the life of artist, Henry. H. Cross. He was the most prolific painter of Indian portraits with Chief Tall Bull being one of them. I have read that Wm. F. Cody killed Tall Bull at Summit Springs. Is this true according to your families oral history?

I am extremely interested in any information you would be willing to share. My Great Great Grandmother , Maria Weichell, was captured in May 1869 and rescued at the Battle of Summit Springs. As you are aware it was at this battle that Chief Tall Bull was killed. These stories were not passed down in our family, however, a history buff wrote to me and I have been trying to assemble information about that period including Dog Soldiers especially Chief Tall Bull. Thank you in advance for any information you would be willing to share.
