21 is awfully young for a major. Thomas Jefferson admits being wayward around that age and Ben Franklin has even more raunchy tales of his 21 year old self. No British apologism can obscure the fact that a company of geniuses chose him to lead.

I finished this book fairly recently and mostly agree with your assessment. However, while Clary makes many "dubious" statements throughout, I think you make a similarly dubious statement concerning Washington's relationship with Sally Fairfax. It's an opinion stated as if it were based on objective evidence.

Other than that, good review.
