I'm in complete agreement with the reviewer of the book, as well as with Bruce. I doubt the accuracy of the book, since one glaring error was to claim John Wilkes Booths date of death was also his birthday. J. Wilkes Booth was born on May 10, 1838 and died on April 26, 1865. This is so glraing, it made me question everything else, even though I'm not very familiar with Civil War history.

I wish the author had decided to write a fictional account based on Civil War history - it would have made for a good novel. But it sure makes for a bad history book.

The comment posted above in this site is spot on in their assesment of Mr. Winik book April 1865 but more than anything Mr. Winiks credibility is destroyed with his many errors; such as the spelling of Nathanael Greene, or that Simon Cameron was his Treasury Secretary or that Salmon Chase was Treasury Secretary at the time of his second inaugural. These obvious errors are very damaging to the book and his over sensationalized and at time sophomoric account of April, 1865.
