   I have one of the 197 Benjamin Butler US Colored Troop Medals 
gven to Black soldiers who fought at The Battle of New Market Heights, Virginia in September 1864. It is in pristine condition and I believe is in the original presentation box.  I need assistance in determining who is the reciepient of  the medal. Inscribed in cursive under the wreath is &quot; To JHG &quot;. I would appreciate any assistance that you could give me. be formed and fight in the American Civil War was the First 
Kansas Colored Volunteer Infantry, formed at Fort Leavenworth, 
Kansas in the spring of 1862. They fought their first battle at 
Butler Missouri, &quot;The Battle of Island Mound&quot; , October 26th, 
1862. A complete accounty of the FKCVI can be found in &quot;The 
Chance&quot;, written by Dale E. Vaughn.</description>
