Hello Yoram and Reeta. My father was on Zara too. He survived and he was ospitalized after the battle. I'd be glad to talk to you, even if I don't know a lot about that battle, except what I read on the books.

Dear Reeta
I cannot answer your question but since I am involved in the same type of quest, I wonder if you received any answers to your question.
I am looking for a family member by the name Dorino Luchich who was probably killed on the "Zara"
Appreciate any help
Thanks
Yoram

While this is a well done recitation of the battle, the conclusion is false. Cape Matapan , a savage defeat , was in no respect the last time that the Italian Fleet sortied . The latest history of the Mediterranean Naval War , O'Hara's "the STruggle for the Inner Sea" recounts how the Italian's learned from Taranto and Matapan and strategically kept up with the British until the Americans joined with enormous air power in 1943. Even at the time of the surrender the Italians came as a fleet in being, and negotiated while armed. Matapan was in 41 yet the Italian fleet supplied the Africa Corp and Italian troops in North Africa and harassed the Malta convoys for two more years with numerous surface engagements.

I also wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this article. I could close my eyes and see the flotilla of tried and true super dreadnoughts of the British fleet ready to annihilate the Italian ships.

"I am very interested in any information on Naval engagements
in the Atlantic Theatre during World War Two. Most of the books
I have read have been about the Pacific Theatre, and as you might know, most of the battle engagements were air power.
I am looking for ship to ship battles.
Anything that you might be able to send or recommened would
be truly appreciated.
Yours truly
