I take the Civil War Times and read an article in the last issue about Garrett. According to oral history, I am the 2G Grandson of George Washington Garrett who was African and free. My 2G Grandmother, Josephine Garrett, daughter of G. W. Garrett and a Native American woman was a domestic for a Doctor. She gave birth to William Wesley Roberts at age 16, circa 1863 who was also a Doctor... She married a Riley Gardner in 1872 and moved to Kansas. Grandmother Garrett-Gardner practiced midwifer and was in demand at the homes of women giving birth. She was an assistand to a Doctor Zugg.
Two of my 2G Grandfathers fought for the Union as USCT soldiers. Riley Gardner was from Maryland and John William Price was from Kentucky. Any assistance in finding my family members is apprreciated. My email: pmosesjohnson@vgold.net. Thanks!
