Unfortunately unless you are rich you cannot read Gunther Rall's book. What a shame more copies weren't published. Book publishers over publish trash books by people in their teen years talking about THEIR life. I'm sorry but I don't think a teen ager has enough to say to fill a book.
It shows you how we have our priorities mixed up. Rall has a lot to tell us, yet we cannot afford to read it.

I was privileged to attend a symposium in 1980, at the Elks Club in Long Beach, CA, entitled "Five Luftwaffe Generals". On stage were Gunther Rall, Fritz Oblesser, Dieter Hrabach, Adolph Galland and Walter Krupenski. It was an amazing event. I got to ask Adolph Galland about flying ME-262s when they were "tail draggers" - their takeoffs required extraordinary skill. In the audience was an American P-47 "Jug" pilot who had engaged in a dogfight with Gunther Rall in his ME-109 and, as they flew down to the deck, had fired a burst which shot Rall's left thumb off. The American owned a ski-manufacturing company; every year, he sent Gunther Rall a new pair of skis! Remarkable chivalry! As a pilot studying aerobatics, I found the whole event to be unforgettable.

Gunther Rall was a real Gentleman. I have books writen by many well known fighter pilots who flew during WW II, and Gunther Rall's, "My Log Book," is one of my favorites. I have books by American flyers, British Flyers, and German flyers, and the one thing you learn is that they were all the same. Fighter pilots are a very special breed of men. The only differences between them was the uniform they wore! They were all young men fighting for their country, right or wrong.
Robert Johnson, Johnny Johnson, Francis "Gabby" Gabreski, Heinze Knoke,
Ginger Lacey, Douglas Bader. All were good men. I'd be proud to shake any of their hands today!. Most by now have passed on through the veil, but maybe I can meet them in the next world. They were all, "Men Amongst Men!

I am saddened by the death of General Rall. I flew in an online WWII virtual Air combat squad "JG57" as General Rall. We were never defeated. I learned the combat skills my squad and I used in online battles from the study of General Rall and his fighting tactics.

Great interview! It is too bad Mr. Gunther Rall died recently, he seemed like a good man at heart. I was wondering what were his religous views?

Thank you

I have seen the General on many TV documentaries and have always been impressed by his directness and honesty when answering questions. He appears, to me, to be a straight ahead kind of person who it would be an honour to know.
