My cousin, was on B.H. when hit by suicide planes. He was a Navy F4U pilot, was on deck moving planes when they hit. He went over the side and was later picked up by a destroyer. All his mates were killed in the Ready Room and he always wondered why he was spared. His name was Willian "Bill" Moore. This was his first combat Tour and of course the last for him. He stayed in and retired in 1962 after duty as sqaudren commander at Gitmo during the missle crisis. He died 2 years ago, wonder if he new the Major.

Sorry for my english, I`ll try, I met. maj Donahue during a airshow in Cuernavaca, morelos, Mexico, in 1988, we were talking about airplanes, when he was fighting in the war, I remenber i give to him a tequila and he start to dring it at once. Later I see him again at Harlingen, Tx. and he invitme to fly in a AT6 Texan, remember he toldme, "Sergio is a nice day to fly", he showme some tricks which he used during the war and he letme fly during some minutes the plane, was amazing. I think was lucky to fly with a legend of the aviation and an ace, those were some of my better moments in my live, even I have some pictures with him. seeyou maj, Donahue, thanks for the moments.

I met Maj. Donahue at an airshow in Stratford, Connecicut in 2005 at Sikorsky Airport across the street from a closed U.S. Army tank plant that was the Vought-Sikorsky then Chance Vought plant where F4U Corsairs were made during WWII. He was quite an interesting man and I have an autographed photo of him and VMF-212 that was shoen in the Aviation History article. A fellow Connecicut National Guardsment that I worked with made tail sections for the Corsair at the plant during WWII. THe gentlemen is also in the famous photo of Igor Sikorsky making the first VS-300 helicopter flight in 1939.
