My maternal grandmother was Mary Humiston. She married Clinton Eseltine and they lived in the Brandon N.Y / Malone N.Y area all their lives.

I watched the History Channel's "Gettysburg" today (recorded) and I was really surprised to learn of the Amos Humiston story. I know that my grandmother's family lived in various towns in Northern NY. including Chateaugay. Her grandfather lived to be 105 I believe.

I am also a Humiston. My dad was from Chateaugay, NY, as were his father, Bernard, and grandfather, Clarence. I wonder if we're all related.

I'm auditioning for the part of Amos Humiston tomorrow (something for the History Channel), and it's amazing what you can find out with a little bit of digging on the internet! I couldn't have asked for more information on this very special person and what his last act inspired.
This will be a huge help in mustering the emotion for his death scene. Long live Amos Humiston!

I just returned from a DC and Gettysburg trip. Unfortunately, I did not know enough about Amos Humiston to find his monument. My husband's name was David Humiston from Malone, NY. He passed away at 53 due to heart trouble. I would loved to have seen the monument so that I could share it with my children. Thank you for the article and the fascinating story.
