Wonderfully researched and very well written. I honestly never knew about the Spanish contributions to the AR. I know a little about the French contributions - I wish I knew more (as much as this young lady knows about her subject). Maybe someday as I become more a more accomplished artist - she'll take pity on me and help me rock n roll like her.

Much of what I have previously read about British-Spanish military engagements have been overwhelmingly critical of Spanish military leadership - refer to books describing conflicts in the 1500's Carribean theater.

The same 'propaganda' motivated me as a child to research French-English conflicts, leading me to find only a small amount of info on French contributions in the Amer Revolution. And yes - I am of part French extraction :).

Dave, I too was surprise to learn about the many Revolutionary War campaigns in Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast and that of Bernardo de Galvez. What also made this discovery equally important to me and my family was the role Galvez placed in the lives of my 4th Generation Great Grandparents - One a enslaved female name Agnes living in Spanish Colonial Louisiana and the other a French National named Mathieu Devaux dit Platilla who served in the New Orleans Militia - Artillery under his command of the Spanish Colonial Forces. Their story and some additional Colonial Louisiana History comes alive in a segment of the PBS program titled the Galvez papers seen here: http://video.pbs.org/video/1918385492/

Very interesting article, as a student of the Revolutionary War I am surprised that there has not been more written about this campaign or Sr. Galvez.

I would be interested in amy suggestions for further reading on this phase of the War.
