I was on LZ Buff on May 11, 1969 with my IPW team. We were to support a beginning field operation the next day. We were hit early that morning by the 401st Main orce Sapper Btn. We lost several infantrymen from Alpha Co. 5/46 and an engineer.
About Oct/Nov of that year I visited LZ Snoopy with a couple of Kit Carson Scouts (chieu hois employed as scouts for the infantry). They were former sappers who could travel as fast on their toes and fingers as a normal man could walk. I was taking the to 11th Infantry LZ to demonstrate their skills.
We landed on the lower pad about dusk and met some guys in a bunker and never realized that they wer engineers until this article.
I met Sgt Johnson (from Tyler Tx and the C.O. from Midland.
They told me that they were being overrun but still fired their missions and that they provided the artillery cover for LZ Buff during that time. I want to tell you "job well done" and THANKS. There were VC body all in the wire.

The hill was defended that night by Alpha Co. and Echo Recon.

We were re-supplied and medivacced that night by choppers flying through tracers and rpg rounds.

Again thanks.

I also was told that a redleg had just bought some expensive stereo equipment which he had in his bunker and VC took over his bunker.
I was told that he had difficulty dropping a grenade in his bunker.

Some good stories about brothers in arms.

I was in the Battery only a short period of time but visited on ammo resupply runs. I knew your dad about as well as anyone could under the circumstances. Your dad had a mustache, from what I can recall.

Mr. Hodges, To actually run across someone who was in Vietnam with my father from over forty years ago. How rare is that? Did you know my father well?

My nick-name was HODGE! it was given to me around the age of 10 in my home town of Philly. Alot people that have met over the years, thinks my last name is Hodge. I guess i pick up were you left off.
