The killing of thousands of civilians cannot be sanctioned by saying that they got what they deserved. My family lived through the Hamburg firestorm and my grandfather neither gased women and children, nor was he a Nazi party member. The bombing of German cities during WW2 constitutes a war crime because it deliberately was meant to kill civilians. They were not collateral damage, they were the target! My daughter and grandsons live in Hamburg. It is such a beautiful city. I wanted to know what happened to it during the war. Just unbelieveable the firestorm that killed so many. All those buildings gone. When I go there I look at the old ones that are still standing, lots of the new ones were made to look like the older styles. Just is really something to see what happened.
