Kevin is right. During the whole time I was there(C 5/52) all of the lieutenants, XO and Commander are usually no where to be found during the missile attack. This is also true with some higher up Sergent's as well. Let me remind you guys we shot down three scuds in theater. I came in to believe "Army of one", this is not what happened. During the breakdown of the site, guess where they were? Yep inside the tent with the AC blasting. With the lack of leadership, I'm surprised any of us were hurt.

Nice story.
And that is all it is. If I remember correctly you were in my Battery, HHB, and we had 0 Launchers. You were the XO and did nothing the entire time we were there, but sit in the TOC where the A/Cs were going full blast with the BC and 1SG.
As for your Bronze Star, it helps that all three of you(Brea, Veranis, and you) wrote your own awards and signed off on them. Again for doing nothing!

Cool story bro.

Now let's realize that:

A: That launcher was not "yours". The driver was female, and her name was certainly not "Carl".

B. There was no Carl Ciovacco in B BTRY at that time.

C. Mike Maynard certainly was in charge of that launcher, and damn right those roads were bombed out. It did not help we were driving for 2 straight days either.

Nice fake story bro! April fools indeed!

Carl,

I really enjoyed the read, I (B Btry) was a couple days ahead of you into Iraq, so it was interesting to hear of your "challenges" at Wolf, Viginia and NAVSTAR.

The picture of the launcher off the road was mine :-(, driving at night on bombed out roads about halfway to Bushmaster.

Living through those attacks with a hospital unit our of Saudi, always having to don MOP gear, that I don't recall with much humor. However, I got to relieve the experience even more intensely in Iraq years later.

Great story though...it's always groundhog day out here. LOL

Aprils fools is a great title for this story. There is no such thing as a "heat seeking Patriot" Nor did the Iraqis shoot any Scud missiles during this war. Most of the missiles shot by the Iraqis were of the Ababil SSM type.
The Patriot is a radar guided missile.
